We are not experienced cruisers by choice, but we wanted to experience the Panama Canal so it was inevitable that we take a cruise.

Having been notified via email that embarkation would be delayed because of security checks and a deep cleaning for norovirus which had been present on the previous sailing, we left our downtown Miami hotel, the J.W. Marriott, around 1:00 p.m. and arrived at the ship at around 1:30. If it wasn't for other passengers we wouldn't have a clue what to do as the signage and Celebrity personnel were woefully lacking. As Aqua Class passengers we were able to bypass some of the line when we finally got to the check-in.

Upon boarding the ship we experienced the first of several of Celebrity's lack of communication. We boarded the ship and took the elevator unimpeded to the 11th floor, walked to the aft and entered our room. We were in the middle of a complete lysol room wipe down when our cabin steward Melanio entered and asked why we were in our cabin because the cabins were not ready. It would have been a nice detail to share with us upon embarkation! He said it was okay to stay though. Given that the cabins were supposed to have been given extra sterilization because of the norovirus, we were a little less than impressed with the number of grimy looking lysol wipes we finished with. At least we could guarantee that our room had really been sterilized by ourselves!

Cabin Review

Aqua Class

Cabin A1

A quiet location with excellent proximity to the aft elevators and the dining rooms.

The decor in the room is starting to look tired but it is spacious enough and has a lot of storage. The bathroom is large for ship standards but the shower door is completely ineffective resulting in a wet floor after every shower.

The balcony is unobstructed and mostly uncovered which makes it extremely hot particularly when travelling on the Central America itineraries.
