For anyone who cruised this ship for the first time, do not be put off cruising this is nothing like other lines and even Thomson Dream is better for food. The Majesty isn't as old as the Dream 25 years almost; but the organisation of it is not good. The non British crew which includes the captain must go a long way to the serving up of poor food and even it's presentation is very off putting. I unfortunately dropped some piccalilli into a mayonnaise jug because I had to reach over the mayonnaise and the piccalilli was still in the jug an hour later. There are uncovered tea bags and awful coffee in the urn. Ordinary Nescafe is non existent except in the rooms. The custard was always lumpy although the usual daily sponge was light. Even the salads were poor and runner beans and carrots are the only vegetable used. Abdul is one of those over the kitchen and probably doesn't get a very high budget for food and that is obvious in all respects.

There is no excitement in going down to the waiter served restaurant as the food is just as bad. It's a laugh that people still wear dinner suits on this ship for a mostly uninspiring dinner and still do the hand clap for the Baked Alaska. I'd have felt overdressed in my everyday clothes. But a lot of this is relative to life experience and which other ships one has been on and personal lifestyle. We went for a meal in the only paying restaurant on the last night and that was very good for £20.00 a head. But with a limited menu one wouldn't want to go every night.. I'm sure the waiters do their best. It is the top dogs who need a shake up. The Captain is Greek and I understand that cruise ships these days are run like a franchise so perhaps he needs to look to his laurels. (No pun intended) He couldn't be understood when he spoke over the tannoy and the longer he spoke the faster he became and less understandable.

The cabins are very small. Ours had a window and 2 single beds (one sloping towards to the floor) Albert and Oleana our room stewards were very good, no complaints there. However, after peeking into other cabins it wouldn't be advisable to have a double bed as one side was against the wall and getting up in the night would be a big problem as one occupant would have to put up with being climbed over. We didn't go into the entertainment after the first time as the women 'singer' shouted instead of singing and I don't like a pub atmosphere for entertainment. A few of the entertainment staff are British and the rest are Malays and Indians . We only used one coach trip to get us to Coralleco on Fuerterventura and the guide was good and informative on that half hour journey. There is also plenty of room for sunbathing but be careful where you sit as a LOT of soot comes out of the funnels onto floor and beds It was a cheap cruise £1100 for 2 for one week. Still we went to places we hadn't been before which was the reason for the cruise. I wouldn't go on that ship again no matter how cheap the fare.

Cabin Review

Cabin d

Small with window and 2 single beds. Not big enough for a double bed. My mattress sloped to the edge and I felt that was how I slept on the edge. However the ship was quiet and I slept very well, but I do sleep deeply and my partner who sleeps lightly heard noises and laughter in the hall. Albert and Oleana were our very good stewards.
