We had previously done the Romantic Danube and the Rhine separately, but my brother and wife wanted to do a cruise so we recommended this one. The part through southern Germany was new to us but we learned new things even on the other portions that we had already sailed. We really enjoy the daily shore excursions as the educational opportunities are important to us as we are both retired educators. There were also a number of optional excursions.

On this cruise we did a lot of sailing during the daytime and sitting on the top deck taking in the breathtaking scenery was spectacular. It was also interesting to see the ship going through the numerous locks. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. We arrived at the ship fairly early in the morning and they had a light lunch for us. A bus was available to take us into town so we could explore even before the actual cruise began. There were a few cancellations so we were upgraded to a balcony room that was beautiful. I am sure it was because this was our fifth cruise with Viking.

The dining choices were fabulous. There was always a regional dish, fish dish, and a vegetarian one. The desserts were out of this world and you could have more than one. The wait staff was exceptional in their service. My brother had a bad cold and the server brought him so broth that wasn't on the menu.
