Great cruise,but the weather...

Sail Date: March 2009
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Miami

This was our 3rd cruise on NCL and second on the Sky having sailed before on Royal Caribbean, this cruise being for our daughter's birthday. We were booked in Category BB which is a balcony stateroom but I did figure out that an Oceanview room is about the same size, just a different layout. We stayed in an Oceanview on our last cruise aboard the Sky and the two seem to be about the same size without the balcony. The plus to this is the (2) NCL robes in the balcony room, upgraded bathroom amenities, and special seating in the Palace dining room for balcony and suite guests for breakfast.

EMBARKATION: A breeze,15 or 20 minutes from the time we arrived to the time we were aboard to receive the "Welcome Aboard" champagne or juice. Staterooms were ready at 2:00PM so we ate lunch and let our daughter swim in the kid's pool until that time. Lunch is available at the Garden Cafe and Great Outdoor Cafe(Buffet style),Crossings Dining Room(sit-down),and Il Adagio(buffet with pizza and More cooked to order pasta).

STATEROOM: Very clean, comfortable bed, regular turndown service at night, lots of pillows, and a great view from the balcony!

FOOD/DINING: Typical cruise line fare in the buffets, but good and hot. We ate at Il Adagio one night which charges a 10.00 cover charge pp, but in our opinion it's worth it,BTW, the pizza and pasta served at lunch is not the same as dinner,it's much better!

PORT OF CALL/NASSAU: Having been to Nassau before,we opted to bypass the Straw Market and head for Pirates of Nassau with our daughter. This inexpensive museum is a great attraction for kids and adults alike. Admission was 12.00 USD pp w/ kids under 3 free. It's located one block up from the Straw Market on George Street. We stopped at Senor Frogs on the way back to the ship to enjoy a drink and the view. We arrived at the ship just in time for the rain to begin off and on all night.

DAY AT SEA: This day was supposed to be at NCL's private island, Great Stirrup Cay, but due to the high wind and ocean swells approaching 6ft, it was not safe to tender guests back and forth from the island. A day at sea is better than a day at work so even though the pools were crowded, we really didn't complain and opted for some nap time in our room. When we awoke, the rain came back with a vengeance and the sea became a little rough.

DEBARKATION: I love this about NCL, get off the ship when you want(10:00am at the latest)and carry off your own luggage if you desire. The line to get off the ship was long, but it moved rather quickly( 10-15 min ) and then a short wait to clear customs. The entire process taking 30min or less.

SUMMARY: A great cruise, had a great time(minus the weather),daughter had a blast, and didn't have to cook! We have become exclusive NCL cruisers due to their "FREESTYLE CRUISING" which allows more choices and more freedom. See you next time,NCL! Less
