This was my 15th cruise overall, and 8th cruise on Princess. We were onboard for the 10 night eastern Caribbean itinerary. I have generally been very pleased with Princess cruises, and this was my first cruise on the Royal sized ship. In summary, I would have to give Royal a mixed review, and would have to really want the itinerary to book her again.

We arrived in Fort Lauderdale the evening before embarkation after an 11 hour drive from Alabama. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Miramar, FL, not too far from the port. Very nice hotel, would book there again. In the morning, drove to our pre-arranged parking, SafeCruiseParking, and parked the car. Plusses - cheap, got to keep our keys, drop off was prompt. Minuses - took forever to get picked up on disembarkation. Would use again, see: cheap and got to keep our keys. Embarkation was a breeze - being Platinum helps, although Princess does seem to have boarding down pat. I had stopped checking my bags after some terrible experiences, but because my husband was injured, we checked all of our bags, including a case of Pepsi, a computer bag and a dive bag with a fishing pole in it. Everything arrived at our cabin door promptly and intact.

Upon arriving to our cabin, an inside cabin on Deck 14, we met our cabin steward, and I immediately asked for a top sheet to be placed on the bed, which was promptly done. The room was exactly as we expected, pretty much like any other Princess ship I've been on. The flat screen TV was an improvement, as was the on-demand selection of shows and movies. There was a bit more drawer space in the cabin and the layout of the bathroom was definitely improved. You still have to step out of the shower to change your mind, but the addition of a foot rest was fantastic - no more having to use the toilet as a foot rest for leg shaving, etc. The sink was larger and the fixtures were nicer. So overall, a slighter better cabin experience than usual. We did have to have maintenance come and fix the shower as we were not getting any hot water out of it. It turned out that the handle was loose and not turning properly.
