We cruised for 4 nights on inaugural Fraser Island Cruise. Anniversary so just my wife and I. We had a balcony room on level 9 which is well worth the extra dollars. The rooms are huger at 27 sqm and the balcony is serviceable in size. Had no troubles at all with water/toilets/showers/air con. Loved the room.
Yes it is an old boat renovated, but it is beautifully done. Cabinetry and design makes you feel like you are on a high end sports yacht. There are moody atmospheric bars, or you can sit around the pool area on a host of modern comfortable lounges. It is only when you pay attention to some of the details that you start to appreciate how nicely the boat has been done. If you are looking for and complaining about small details, you are missing the point of getting a beautiful ship for an economy price.
We ate at the Waterfront, the Pantry and Angellos, Dragon Lady and the highlight, a lunch at Salt. Waterfront meals feel like less of an "event" without sitting times and the same tables each night. No tablecloths, but still good food choices. Would say that given you don't have dedicated waiters each night, the service is less consistent than when the staff are excelling in anticipation of a cruise end tip. The Dragon lady very stylish and atmospheric, food servings small, but high quality. Wasn't a big fan of Angellos as was hungry for a gourmet pizza or similar which they don't have. Wife enjoyed her meal there though. The highlight was a lunch at Salt. Decor and service is outstanding and had one the best meals we have ever had. Try the tempura oysters, you wont be disappointed. Yes, it cost, but so much less than the same meal at a city location. Plus you get to watch the ocean for free.
