Review of Crown Princess sailing October 10, 2015:
Bottom Line:
Would we do this cruise again? Yes.
This is an aft balcony. Typical size room for a balcony room. Desk with two outlets (although I always travel with a Belkin three-outlet, two USB port hub). Desk, two chairs, and a small low table. Small refrigerator. TV with a range of channels, including ESPN. No DVD player. To the extent you could plug an HDMI cable in from your own device, access is difficult and I could not see if such a connection is available.
Very large balcony, with two chairs and a small low table. We moved the indoor table outside to have two tables to use for breakfast on the balcony.
Small bathroom, and very small shower. If you are 6 feet tall, your hair will likely remain dry. If you are 6 foot 6, liker Bob the cruise director, you simply will not fit.
Clothes line in the shower which will handle two swim suits.
We live here. Of course it's excellent. In San Pedro, see the battleship Iowa. In Long Beach, see the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
It's San Francisco. Walk down Lombard Street while playing (on your phone) "I left My Heart in San Francisco," "San Francisco, Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair," and Judy Garland singing "San Francisco."
We docked at Pier 27. Easy walk to the right to the Ferry Building and Market Street. Easy walk to the left to Pier 39 (tourist trap but go to the end to see about 100 sea lions hauled out on docks), Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square. You can walk a very strenuous 5 blocks south, uphill (not for the faint of heart) to Lombard Street, and the walk down Lombard Street back to Fisherman’s Wharf.
The F Muni line runs along the Embarcadero to Fisherman’s Wharf, or the other way up Market Street where you can access Union Square. $2.25 adults, $1 seniors. The bus stops right at the cruise terminal.
I took the Midway tour. The Midway is about 1 block south of the cruise ship terminal; easy level walk. If I recall correctly, the Midway opens at 10, so get there and buy a ticket at 9:45 or so. As soon as you get on board get directions to the bridge tour, as those are capacity limited. I had no problem getting on a tour. Very fascinating. After you are done, you can tour the rest of the carrier. You can spend days here. Lots of guides and little talks. Do not miss a description of how the planes take off and land. Go sit in a fighter and have your picture taken. This tour is outstanding.
OK, we’ve been here about 6 times. This time I took the tour to the Bufadora, a blowhole near town. Marginally worth it. You get to walk pat over a hundred vendors selling discounted drugs and souvenirs. Bathrooms with a small fee.
