This is our 2nd Carnival cruise (1st on Conquest in 2014). We live San Francisco and wanted a proper vacation for Spring break for me, DH, and 2 daughters, without the hassle of flying, so this cruise seemed a good choice. Drove down to Longbeach the day before, which took about 7 1/2 hours with rush hour traffic. We stayed at the Hilton in Longbeach, which had a park and cruise package. Very nice room with Harbour views, indoor parking and a lovely, modern space. Shuttle service was chaotic on embarkation day because a lot of hotel guests were heading to terminal with only one shuttle. We ended up taking a cab for $12 for the 4 of us.

Embarkation: We got to terminal about 12:30, and was busy but not crazy. We had faster to the fun, so got through lines quickly, but the regular line was moving as well. The terminal at Long beach definitely needs to be renovated. Just a big empty space with no appeal and very bare bones.

Went straight to our room to drop off carry ons and rooms were ready and met our very friendly steward Putu. We had two connecting cabins on deck 7, forward. We had a balcony connecting to an interior, which was a great set-up with young children. We had their inside room decorated with the Dr. Seuss decor. Went up to Lido and grabbed lunch from the buffet, then off to Camp Carnival to get kids checked in to get their wristbands. We pre-recited them online, which saved time.

Cabin 8D

We had 2 cabins. Our cabin 7108 was a balcony very far forward under the bridge. We connected to 7106, an inside cabin. Lots of storage with the standard Carnival layout. This was the perfect setup, since our kids are fairly young and didn't need their own balcony. Good location 2 decks below Lido and 2 deck above Camp Carnival. Cabin was clean and very well maintained. We felt the ships motion but not too bad and we slept very well. This room doesn't have a couch because of connecting door but was fine with 2 armchairs. The inside cabin was very nice and the kids didn't mind the lack of windows and loved having their own room. We had it decorated it with the Cat in the Hat theme items.
