Let me first say, DON’T read the negative reviews. Traveled on Royal several times (me and my husband) before and still love this cruise line. My husband is a review fanatic and almost cancelled our 12 day cruise for March 2016 due to the negative reviews out there. So glad we didn’t cancel. The one advantage we had this time around was that we upselled to a grand suite from a family junior suite and my husband loved the perks (special seating at shows, sundeck, and concierge lounge for snacks) but aside from that nothing was less than awesome. Cabin was clean spacious and quiet and we were right outside the elevator area which surprised us how quiet our room was. My husband is diabetic and requires a fridge to keep his insulin cold, not a problem and delivered to our room as we requested. I blew a fuse with my hair dryer and facilities came in a snap to reset it and suggested I use their provided dryer so I guess mine was a bit too powerful – LOL. Housekeeping brought ice when needed and made cute towels which is always a treat.

Reviews I read were accurate about dining reservations - Book in advance! We did and only had to wait in line the first night, not sure why but no big deal. We eat a big breakfast and dinner and maybe a snack mid day but no lunch so I can’t speak to lunch anywhere on the ship. We ate at American Icon - I ordered salmon which was good, husband ordered steak which was average but service outstanding. Silk – amazing and my husband is not open to trying anything new but he thought it was the most delicious hibachi steak yum! We went to the Grande one evening because we don’t’ care to dress up suit and dress every night but it was great service and wonderful meal. Others we spoke with on the ship who went more often said it was hot food one night and not so hot another. Wonderland – my husband was soooo skeptical to trying anything differtent. We both loved it!!!!!!!! It was fun, waiter was great and food was awesome. The chef visited our table too which was great. We reserved a second nite on the ship for Chops Grill the steak was so good and service outstanding. Jamie’s Italian was another outstanding dish (the plank was amazing) and service outstanding. We wanted to go back but they had late reservations and we don’t eat late at night. Chic was good but the tables for 2 are a bit snug up against others but still another restaurant with great food and service. One night we went to Michaels Pub for a burger because he had no reservations and to our surprise – amazing!!!! Coastal Kitchen – another perk to enjoy breakfast rather than the Windjammer buffet. CK was great food and service. We also ate there twice for dinner and enjoyed the food and service both times. Nothing short of excellent everywhere. We did go to Windjammer for breakfast a couple times. Food was great except the scrambled eggs and I don’t know what they are but they don’t taste like eggs – switched to omlets because they are definitely real eggs. As you may know Windjammer is busy but if we walked to the back of the buffet we found seating a bit quieter than the front area. Service was awesome. Someone always asked us if they could get us coffee or juice and there was always someone there to clean up to allow someone else to be seated.

I found the service from all crewmembers gracious, accommodating, friendly, and happy no matter what position they held. They were always cleaning railings, door knobs, everything. The ship before us had some norovirus so I’m sure they were making sure passengers would not end up with sicknesses.
