This was the first cruise we've taken 2 adults, 1 child (10). We weren't sure how we would like cruising since we usually like to drive around and explore when we travel. We were very happy with this first experience, and very pleased with the Norwegian Getaway. Although I would have loved to have more time on each island, the excursions we chose allowed us time to be active but also to leisurely eat, shop and relax. The crew on the Getaway was top notch and I really like that the attire was "whatever you want". I hate dressing up on vacation so collared shirt, shorts and flip flops are my style so yhis cruise was excellent in that regard. You can dress up if you want, but you don't feel out of place if your not.

The variety of food, beverage and enterainment onboard is impressive and appreciated. The one thing we didn't like was the top deck pool options for the child. There's an adult pool which was nice but really small/overcrowded pool for kids...the water slides are fun and cool, but sometimes we just want to be in a pool, so the lack of pool was a bit of a drain. Also, if you want a chair on the pool deck on a sailing day, you better put stuff on a chair (s) early. With so many people on the ship, the lounge chairs go quickly. Luckily for us, our mini-suite stateroom was large enough that it had 2 lounge chairs plus 2 regular chairs and a table, so we were able to relax on our own deck when we couldn't get a chair on the pool deck. So from that regard I recommend a mini-suite (or for adults, you can pay for access to Vibe which is an adult only (resort style) area on the top deck. We didn't do Vibe because we had a 10 year old with us, but we met a couple who raved about how happy they were with the upgrade to Vibe.

Given that the ship is very large 3000+ guests, we only noticed the crowd on the pool deck. Everywhere else it was very comfortable. Great ship, great crew, great variety onboard. I highly recommend Norwegian Getaway. Read more
