We booked this because we enjoy the resort feeling of days at sea. We begin our day early with specialty coffee at the International Cafe. After walking have a leisurely breakfast in the Horizon Court, love their waffles. Zumba is a blast! Then there are lectures where we learn new things. On this cruise we were visiting military bases in Honolulu so the new information we learned about submarines in the Pearl Harbor attack was very interesting. It is difficult to chose what to do, but fortunately most lectures are replayed on the ship's tv if you do something else when they are live. We used the fitness center most sea days too. We did not participate in the choir but some of our table mates did so we went to the performance, and the fashion show to cheer them on.
The Happy Hour in the Wheelhouse is a great way to have a before dinner drink, at an affordable price. If you are not traveling with a group then you usually sit with other travelers and it is another opportunity to learn about the adventures of other travelers. We really enjoyed our dinner group! Our waiter and his assistant were so fun. Also, one person was ill and did not come to dinner so our waiter took an order from her travel companion and sent it to her cabin. They have room service 24 hrs. but the dining room menu is special so I was very impressed he did that for them.
Since we get up early we don't go to many evening events, but the performances we attended were fun. The British Invasion featured music from our teenage years and was a lot of fun. The ship was decorated with special banners before Hawaii and Mexico, as well as St. Patrick's Day decorations. They also provided special eye protection so when the sun peaked out during the solar eclipse we got to look at that too. I just roll my eyes when people say cruises are boring. We had a blast!
Our steward gave us a warm welcome and explained everything we needed to know when we arrived. On the two nights where we stayed in for dinner via room service (Privacy card in door) and watched TV after long days on tours he left our candy in our "mailbox". Our special requests were taken care of with a great attitude. The cabin was well maintained, quiet and comfortable. It did get a little warm even with the thermostat set at the lowest point, but we just opened the balcony door for a while to cool it down.
We always love San Fran. We use Amtrak, which after getting off a train in Emeryville puts you on a bus. The bus stop is at Pier 39. It is leisurely walk to Pier 27 to get checked in.
Tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. The stops were fun.
Ours was the Pearl Harbor and military base tour. We visited Wheeler Field and Shatner Barracks as well as other places. There were movie clips used on the bus as the guide gave us a thoural lesson on the history. This was a touching tribute to those who lost their lives that day.
We walked to Starbucks and used WiFi. Been to Ensenada before, not interested in touring.
