Sail Date: Dec 2015

My husband and I are both disabled and rely on scooters (EMV's) to get around. My review is on those aspects of our trip. Before I begin, I have to comment on Celebrity’s website. In fact, I was so aggravated that I sent a certified letter to their CEO before we sailed. I thought that she might even reply, but we have been home for months now and not a word. My advice? Book with another line until Celebrity gets its act together.

Airlines: We flew Southwest Airlines from Houston to Orlando and then on to San Juan the day before our cruise and returned the day after, using a shore excursion from the ship to Bacardi and then on to the airport. Our flights were uneventful and a delight. The people who fly Southwest are absolutely incredible and a great deal of fun as well. When it’s their last trip before Christmas, be prepared to laugh yourself silly!

Hotel: We had a suite at the Hyatt House. It is a new place and had a bedroom, sofa bed that was incredibly comfortable for two old people, held three scooters and four people easily! We ate at the Sizzler there at the corner of the Pan Am Pier, a short ride via EMV’s from our hotel and an equally short walk for our daughter. Good food prepared well and often better than what you could get onboard. After dinner, we had a drink on the patio and then went up to the room and decorated the scooters for Christmas, including candy canes to hand out. We had a lavish buffet breakfast at the Hyatt the next morning. Afterwards, our daughter got a cab and took the luggage to the dock. The rest of us drove our scooters the short distance.

Cabin Review

Cabin Inside-Accessible

We had an inside ADA cabin on the second level. It wasn't what we usually have, but those were already booked so we took what we could get, and ended up paying about what we pay for a trip out of Galveston to the Western Caribbean, but including our airfare! The cabins accommodated both scooters and we didn't even have to park in the shower as we did with our last Carnival and Princess ADA Balcony cabin! There was enough room for us to move around and even to use our sofa and table. There wasn't quite as much storage as on Princess but we managed just fine.

Port Reviews

Antigua

Because of issues with our scooters, we chose instead to stay around the docks and explore the shops there. We were impressed with the quality of the items they had for sale and enjoyed our time in Antigua.

St. Thomas

Again, no accessible tours available that fit our needs. We left two scooters behind and even with just one, couldn't find a cab to get into town. I was surprised at the attitudes that we encountered - it wasn't as if we expected them to load it into their cab, we were fine with doing that. We ended up again, walking about the shops that are by the pier. St. Thomas has always been a port we enjoy, but if we can't get tours, we can't enjoy it.
