Traveled with children

We have been on at least 8 cruises across 3 cruise lines. For our 50th anniversary we took our children and grandchildren on this cruise, we selected it because it left from NY. Our destination was the Bahamas. Our outside stateroom was adequate, with a nice closet and plenty of shelf space. The room had nicely laid out bathroom, and I especially liked the door between the commode and the rest of the bathroom. We all decided that we would do our own thing during the day. On evenings when there were no shore excursions we were to meet in the main dining room to have dinner and discuss the day. My husband felt that there were too few choices on the menu in the Grand Pacific and Magenta Main Dining Rooms, (same menu in each) however, all the food that we had there was very good. On those days that we didn't have supper with our family, we ate in the Grand Pacific dining room. We came to the conclusion that anytime dining is very nice, provided that you don't want to meet and talk with others. The maitre d' doesn't ask whether you would like to share a table. Therefore, unless you request it, and the next person waiting on line also does, the staff will not try to find others of a like mind, and although you will be seated at a table larger than one that seats only two, you will not be seated with anyone else. Personally, my husband and I enjoy table conversation with others, sharing experiences, suggestions, etc. My complaints: • Adults only Hot tub often had children in them, even though there were an additional 2 hot tubs for kids only. • Although a sign by the hot tub said no Glass in or around hot tub, there were people handed liquor and beer in glass containers by the staff. Since some of these people were pretty stewed, I worried that we might possible end up with broken glass in the hot tub. • Although the schedule of activities had time set aside for tennis, every time my daughter-in-law and grandson (both good players who brought their own tennis rackets with them) who, at the time specified, went to the courts to play tennis, the dual purpose courts were in use with people playing basketball. The activities staff made no attempt to make the tennis courts available to those who wanted to play tennis. • For a tour of the ship there was a charge of $50 or if you wanted to stop to eat at one of the restaurants at the end of the tour $115. On other cruise lines touring the ship has always been free. • The 7 day soda card was over $50. • We all felt that we were being nickeled and dimed to death. • Our stop in Freeport was a very big disappointment for our family. We were asleep when we arrived and then Instead of leaving Freeport at the originally scheduled 2PM the ship left at noon and we had to be back aboard by 11:30 AM. In order to go anywhere, that was not an NCL shore excursion, one had to take a taxi. We were told that the nearest beach was at least a 20 min. drive each way, Leaving little or no time for swimming or relaxing at the beach. Our children and grandchildren enjoyed the overall cruise experience and, if it weren't for a post cruise debit card mess caused by carelessness on the part of NCL, by and large the cruise was okay. Our son used a debit card as the required security for his extras. Not only did NCL put an initial hold on his account but, in error, charged him over a thousand dollars (in an additional hold on the account) not shown on his final statement the last day of the cruise. He found out about the extra charges when his wife went food shopping and the check out clerk told her that the account was overdrawn. He called NCL, they admitted that an error had been made. They told him that they would correct it by March 10th. When he told them that some of his checks could bounce, they said, "We are sorry" and If that happens they would offer a discount on a future cruise. They told our travel agent, who interceded with NCL on his behalf, the same thing. It took almost two weeks and a number of phone calls to NCL from both our travel agent and our son before NCL finally corrected the error. If you were he, even with "a discount on a future cruise", would you take "a future cruise" on NCL?

Cabin Review

Tiny cabin, Reasonable closet space with lots of shelves, layout of bathroom makes it feel larger than it really is. Closed overhead bunk bed leaves no headroom for a 5ft 8in person when getting into or out of bed.
