I absolutely love the lanai room. But, the Veendam is getting dated and it is a little rough. For example, the tile on the hot tubs is all coming off and many things simply do not appear in in top shape. Overall, I felt the food was good and the staff very pleasant. This cruise which stops in Honduras and Guatemala is fun mostly for its unique itinerary. There is not much to do at either port but you are seeing places most ships don't go. Costa Maya is a nice beach. I just took the shuttle for three dollars and a three dollar taxi back to the ship. The chairs were free at the beach and the personnel was very pleasant. There again isn't really much to do but it is a nice day in the sun.
I found the entertainment to be mixed. I loved Adagio even though it is now only two people. I felt the comedian was simply not funny but the pianist was excellent. Like all ship casinos the odds weren't good but it was always crowded and smokey. I didn't buy anything on board and did no excursions.
It was easy on and off. My room was ready when I got there and my steward was great. Almost literally never saw him.
I love this lanai cabin. It is so nice to look out at the ocean. Or open your door and be on the walkway. I wasn't bothered at all by people walking the deck and actually enjoyed watching people. I loved sitting in the deck chair in the late afternoon or evening after sunning or a port day. I think for the price these rooms are a real bargain.
Fun port and beach. Three dollar shuttle and three dollar taxi to and from beach.
l enjoyed this port. I went to the water fall and the fort on my own. It was much cheaper than the excursion.
Always fun just to walk around.
