We boarded Legend of the Seas on March 6th 2016, the boarding process was efficient and well handled. We went on a walk around to orientate ourselves and were amazed at the amount of deckchairs, they were on every one of the top decks, so different from our P&O cruise where deckchairs were at a premium. Every available space of this ship has been used wisely presenting a great layout and plenty of room, an adults only solarium which was lovely but the one downturn of this was that despite having a retractable roof it was never opened. Whilst this would be good in the northern hemisphere where weather can be cool it was rather stuffy however in northern Australian climates although when it rained it was good, we tended to use the outside decks in the fresh air. The bars were all well situated and comfortable. Ship information was available beside all the lifts with touchscreens to show you where to go. The whole appearance of the ship was luxurious.
Dining was great, we used the Windjammer buffet for breakfast and lunch, getting your food selections was a breeze there were numerous carousels all with different temptations to delight your palate, I was amazed at how quick it was to get what you wanted, there were never any large queues like we encountered on our P&O cruise and there were dishes to suit every taste, the same can be said of the lunchtime buffet. Whilst at some times one had to look around for seating we always managed to get seated. A waiter with a drinks trolley came around to offer fresh squeezed orange juice, which although not free was a great bonus and one I took advantage of. Coffee [free] was also offered, the waiter "Joysee" was a joy with his Good Morning, Good Morning at breakfast and his shouts of "Medication for your vacation" at lunchtime when alcohol was brought around, he had us all in fits of laughter and made the dining room experience one of fun, a bonus in the buffet was the lemonade drink which was lovely fresh and tangy.
Nights we dined in the Romeo & Juliette dining room the service was five star all the way, nothing was too much trouble and we felt important, on mentioning one night that I didn't want ice cream on my dessert because I was lactose intolerant our waiter whose name was Suherman went to the kitchen and got me some lactose free ice cream. We enjoyed being served so much by Suherman and his assistant Lin that we booked the same table at the same time for the rest of our cruise, we were not able to do this on our P&O cruise and had to go through the process of queuing and booking each day so this was a big plus for Royal Caribbean. All of the meals were enjoyable, portion sizes were just right, there was not a food item we didn't like, the menu provided many choices with selections to suit any palate. The service exceeded our expectations.
These cabins are comfortable and well equipped, an electric jug is a real bonus and a small amount of tea, milk and sugar are provided and replenished daily. Fresh towels are provided continually. The cabin was soundproof and the only noise that encroached was when announcements were put over the speaker however one had to open the door to hear these or turn on the cabin speaker. The balcony area though small, as it is on most ships, was adequate and comfortable to sit out on, screens provided privacy from adjoining cabins. There was a washing line in the shower. The cabin was serviced regularly and your every need was catered to.
We did not take the shore tour opted to visit the Wildlife Dome which was informative and nicely laid out with parrots flying free inside and walkways between other exhibits. Then we had a walk around the town. In the evening we visited the Night Market beneath the Breakfree Royal Harbour hotel, lots of souvenirs and bargains, well worth a visit.
