We flew into Jacksonville the morning of day of departure. We caught a cab and headed to the port. Getting onto the ship went very smoothly. Everyone was courteous and all went well. It was just before noon when we got aboard and, as our rooms were not quite ready, we headed up to the lido deck to relax and get something to eat and drink. Our rooms were ready fairly quickly, but all of our luggage did not arrive to our room till later in the afternoon and that did not pose a problem at all.
This was our 1st cruise on Carnival. After reading many reviews, I wondered if I had made the right choice. BUT, I am so happy to say that I did! We always get an inside cabin and it was immaculate. Our room steward did an excellent job, cleaning and tidying up morning and evening, leaving us a different towel creature each evening.
I honestly don't understand why some of the cruisers post such critical, scathing reviews. We were on the same ship. I have learned, after sailing on RC and Celebrity and now Carnival, that you can't really depend on reviews too much.
Our cabin was on the Riviera Deck, 4th floor. It was perfect and our room attendant was very good at keeping our room in order. No complaints at all. We loved the roomy shower!! :-)
We had a very pleasant driver, who was very informative. We met many local people who were so friendly. I just wish the tour had been a bit shorter and that we had spent time on the public beach at Nassau. But it was worth the $25/pp price. We got our tour right after we got off the ship from one of the tour reps. that were hawking their tours. :-)
There was no need for an excursion here! :-) It was heavenly, just languishing on the beach, wading in the water, enjoying the sun and refreshing breezes. We did walk about the island a bit on our own. Carnival provided a barbecue that we delish. Our most enjoyable site on three cruises. We do hope to go back and take our son and his family!
