We have taken this itinerary several times with Princess, but this was the first time on the Grand Princess. We live right across the Bay from the cruise terminal and took BART and the F-line to the ship. The new cruise terminal was very efficient and easy to navigate. There were lots of friendly staffers to direct you and plenty of comfortable chairs while we were waiting to board. We had a balcony cabin on the Baja deck near the back on the Starboard side, it was clean and comfortable, though a little worn. The cabin creaked quite a bit in the rolling seas. Our Steward, Agustin, was attentive and always seemed to know when we were out when he straightened out our cabin.

Our big complaint was the food. We had traditional late dining at a table for eight. Our waiter, Joaquin, was good, but everyone at the table had complaints about the food. The Prime Rib was covered in an overpowering sauce and the New York Steak was so tough it was impossible to cut. It also came with this overpowering sauce, but we asked for it on the side so it didn't ruin the flavor of the "tough" meat. After those disasters we mostly ate the fish dishes, which were OK. Our table mates were speculating that the food quality was deliberately lowered so we would be more inclined to use their specialty restaurants. The food quality definitely was not up to par with our previous Princess cruises.

We had Pizza for lunch one day, it was great, but the breakfasts, in both the main restaurant and the cafeteria were disappointing. There was no "omelet" station where you could watch your omelet being made. You could order an omelet if you didn't want one of the thin pre-cooked ham and cheese omelettes, but what you got was identical to the pre-cooked ones, with your ordered ingredients.

Port Reviews

Cabo San Lucas

There is a nice beach a short walk from the tender pier. Turn left as you leave the pier and pass the naval station and you are at the beach.

San Francisco

Great new cruise terminal.

Puerto Vallarta

Be sure to go across the street to Walmart and take the blue bus to downtown.

Mazatlan

Love the main market and the downtown area.
