EMBARKATION was probably the latest in all of our 15 years of cruising. At 11:30 A.M. there were still passengers disembarking, and the line of passengers waiting to enter the cruise terminal stretched for close to 100 yards. Finally at 12:00 noon, we were allowed to register and subsequently board Royal Princess.

Our STATEROOM c/w a balcony was on deck 8, and like most cruise ship rooms was functional with very little wasted space. We did not often see our stateroom attendant, Maria, but whenever we left for breakfast or dinner, the room was always made up when we returned. Maria was one of the many hardworking, cheerful, and helpful service staff on the “Royal.”

The MEALS in all of the eateries aboard were, for the most part quite tasty, and served at the correct temperature. This was especially appreciated in the Horizon Court buffet, where the hot food was actually hot. Something not always achieved in buffets on our past cruises. The “grill” on deck 16 forward served the best hot dogs and hamburgs I have ever tasted. We ate at a fixed time in the main dining room, and again the quality and variety of the food on offer was very good. Certainly on par with anything served in an upper to mid-priced restaurant ashore. Now about the pizza, which claims to be “the best pizza at sea.” In my opinion – not so much. But you decide for yourself.
