My family and I have cruised in the past, usually sailing out of New York as that is most convenient for my mother. To celebrate her birthday, we decided to try something different. We all flew to and met in FLL the day before sailing as we all live in northern areas prone to weather related delays.
We spent the night before the cruise in the Westin Beach resort. It was comfortable, well-located, with a very friendly and helpful staff. The cruise line shuttle to the port was poorly organized and chaotic, the driver however was delightful.
Embarkation was efficient. My mother elected to use wheelchair assistance as we did not know how long we would be standing on line. We were boarded via an alternate route. The upside of this: no embarkation photo. The downside: no embarkation champagne.
7 ships in port makes for a lot of traffic. once through the traffic, embarkation was smooth
fun, helpful crew and some excellent snorkeling
we took a public bus ($2.50 each!) to a beautiful beach that the security guard at the port recommended~Cemetery beach. It was nearly deserted, getting back and forth was uncomplicated and it was a nice reprieve from the cattle call of an excursion
some of the best snorkeling I've ever done. Beautiful water. Great crew.
