We had a very enjoyable experience aboard the Island Princess during our Panama Canal cruise. Although we dodged a midwestern blizzard to get to Miami, our embarkation was smooth and efficient. A Princess rep was easily found in the baggage claim area and we were escorted to the transit bus to Port Everglades. Upon arrival there were guides to get us to check-in and then to the gangway to board the ship. There were guides aboard to help us find the proper stairways and the way to our mini-suite. Our baggage arrived in about ten minutes. After freshening up we went exploring.
We opted for traditional dining (5:15, like having a reservation versus anytime dining) because we like to get to know our table mates and waiter, we were not disappointed. The food was varied, good tasting, and portioned to help keep our waistlines from growing too much.
The 2nd show the first few evenings was very crowded, but the cruise director added a late performance that took the pressure off for the rest of the cruise. The shows were great, especially the Island Singers/Dancers, and the band did a good job of supporting the other singers brought on board.
