Cabin: Balcony

We have cruised with NCL many times and have always enjoyed the cruises and ships.

The Epic is the poorest designed ship we have ever seen. We had a balcony cabin on deck 10. The lighting in the cabin was extremely dim, not suited to makeup or shaving. The strange configuration of the shower, sink and toilet leave a lot to be desired. Absolutely no privacy what so ever! Very small staircases on either end of the ship. They are only wide enough for an adult and a small child to use side by side. There are 16 elevators, four banks of 4, also on either end of the ship, but at least two elevators in each bank were locked to deck 16. God forbid the residents of the Haven or Villas wouldn't have an elevator available if they chose to mingle with the rest of us.

One of the reasons we cruise is to actually see the ocean or sea. That is not possible on the Epic. The Promanade deck (7) is totally enclosed by lifeboats and there is no provision for any seating on the deck. The only place you can sit outside is on the pool deck. You can see the water from the Garden Cafe and from three windows located in O'Sheehans bar, and from your balcony if you have one as part of you staterrom.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BD

The cabin was a strange confiuration. Because of the "wave pattern", the bed was too short( feet exceeding the end of the mattress) and if one of us was at the sink, the other had to stand by the sofa or door. I shutter to think what an inside cabin is like.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

We took the city bus from the ship to La Rambles. The cost is 2 Euros one way, 3 Euros roundtrip.

Sardinia

The cruise line charged $10 PP for roundtrip shuttle out to the city.

Naples

Lots of walking!

Palma de Mallorca (Majorca)

We took a bus from the ship and just waled around the city.

Madeira (Funchal)

We hired a cab driver to give us a private tour. John was an exceptional tour guide

Malaga

We took the shuttle to the city center and walked around to the sites we were interested in seeing.

Palermo (Sicily)

Although the driver charged us more that we agreed on, the tour was interesting.
