My husband and I were on a 7-day Western Caribbean on the Reflection. We were in stateroom 1245, Concierge Class on deck 10 on the hump with the large balcony. The bed is by the balcony and the location is very close to the aft elevator bank and stairs.
We never saw our cabin steward after he introduced himself on embarkation day. I have no complaints about his work; he kept the room spotless. We never even met the assistant steward. This was different for us, because the stewards and their assistants on previous cruises have been quite friendly.
We had a fairly small roll call, but we did get together for a fun sail away at the Sunset Bar and we had enough people sign up for a Cruise Critic "Meet and Mingle" at the Lawn Grill. There was also a cabin crawl, which I missed due to an overpriced manicure and pedicure.
Cabin 1245 is the same size as all other balcony cabins, from the lowest category through Aqua Class. The only difference in Concierge Class and higher cabins is that there are footstools with the adjustable chairs on the balcony, making them more like lounges. I think there may be a somewhat nicer shower head, but not nearly as nice as the one in the Aqua Class cabins. 1245 is one of the cabins on the slant of the "hump," so it has a much larger balcony than the normal balcony. The location is quite convenient; it's very close to the aft elevators and stairwells on deck 10, so it's easy to walk up and down to the pool deck.
This was our first time cruising from Miami. I had read negative reviews of the Port of Miami, but embarkation was efficient and easy.
We have been to Cozumel several times, so we just took a taxi to town and walked around for a while. We have had a great time there on previous visits.
The problem with Grand Cayman is that it is a tender port. We were planning on going to Seven Mile Beach, but the lines for the tenders were so long, we went up to the pool. We did go into to town a few hours later, but there is not much there unless you are shopping for expensive jewelry or perfume. The last time we were there, we scuba-dived with the stingrays, and it was amazing! I would recommend an excursion here.
I'm not sure if it was Irie Blue Hole, but our driver from Marvyn Gayle's Paradise Tours drove us to the location, and a fantastic guide took over. We climbed to the top of the waterfall, jumped off into the water from a couple of places, went into a cave behind the waterfall, and I did the rope swing. Amazing! Then our driver took us to the next stop, which was tubing down a river with a few gentle rapids -- beautiful! The next stop was a delicious lunch of jerk chicken, fried bread, and rice and peas (and an overly sweet soda). Finally, our driver, Dwight, drove us up into the hills overlooking the port before driving us back to the ship. It was a fantastic day!
