Our cruise on Holland America was a deep disappointment. We began by having Holland America picking up our luggage at the hotel--and promptly losing it for the entire voyage. A baggage department employee tried to blame the airline and, when asked for a supervisor, he lied and denied having one. When a supposed supervisor was found, he too tried to blame it on the airline--again, untrue. The most he would do was supply me with three blue work shirts and one white t-shirt to last the seven day journey. I had to wear the same dirty slacks and socks the entire time. I ran out of medications midway through the journey (the balance was in my luggage) and the ship's doctor refused to assist in replenishing them--they even refused to supply me the required forms for reimbursement.

The "excursions" were an equal disappointment--people were herded like cattle and, at one beach stop, there was no staff even available (they didn't make it due to choppy waters). It was every man for himself to get the reserved umbrellas and, when we finally found an empty one, it was almost time to leave. There was nothing to eat or drink. At another excursion, we didn't know until the last minute (and after it had been paid for) that climbing and descending a seven foot ladder was a requirement--this was extremely painful for my partner due to bad knees (Had we known, we wouldn't have booked this one). Finally, in Jamaica, one of our most anticipated stops, the excursion was utter chaos, with no Holland America people available to control the panicked crowds or vehicles (again, it was every man for himself to find a ride).

The dining in the main dining room was excellent, but trying to find something to eat in between was a nightmare--you could get the food with no problem but then had to stand around waiting for someone to vacate a table so you could sit down--once again, every man for himself. When Holland America says 2,100 people will fit on the Eurodam, that's their goal--to fill every room and every seat with as many people as possible.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

Cabin VA

The Verandah cabin was very nice and the housekeeping/service to the room was excellent. These were the only categories I would give high marks for.
