Sail Date: Jan 2016

This was just my husband and I's second cruise, the prior being on the Grand Princess which we enjoyed thoroughly. We were excited about sailing on this new ship and all of the amenities it promised. Since we are childless and uninclined ourselves to use the rock climbing walls, or ropes courses these extra amenities didn't come into play for us. We do, however, usually partake in the shows and restaurants on the ship.

The premium restaurants, particularly the Churrascaria and Teppanyaki, were excellent. We found ourselves greeted with excellent service and food and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experiences. We also enjoyed the cirque dinner theater a lot. Having said that, we found the included restaurants sorely lacking. At first we thought the buffet would have a lot of options, there were serving sections for pasta and asian cuisine and we were excited to try them. After a couple of days we found many items to be barely edible except perhaps for breakfast. There weren't any solid go to options unless you were eight and happy with chicken fingers/fish sticks and terrible buffet pizza.

The Uptown Grill (a burger bar) was actually very good, but the hours were very spotty and often didn't overlap with meal times. On a couple of occasions we went all the way up to the 16th floor to find the staff cleaning up at 4PM and closed for the rest of the night. The real trouble was the service. I am pregnant and had some specific food aversions (though you should note the buffet feedback was from both my husband and I). All of their burgers were served with a sriracha cole slaw but the menu appeared to list this under their pre-curated burgers only. I asked for a build your own burger and explicitly said I want a plain burger with just cheese and tomato. When my burger came out with the Sriracha cole slaw, I thought they perhaps brought out the wrong order and said I thought they confused my order with my husband's. The server left, and returned and said no this is yours and set my food back down. I explained that I didn't want any spicy slaw and the server said this burger didn't have any. I tried again, this time pointing to the slaw and asked what it was. He said hold on, and left again with my food. Again he returned and set it in front of me and said the sign said the sriracha coleslaw came on every burger so it was mine, apparently there was slaw on my burger after all. Regardless of the sign, I had now explained three times that I didn't want it. I finally said fine, perhaps my husband will have another burger I guess I'll just have to go order again - which is what I ended up doing. After waiting again for it to come out, the same server brought it over this time painfully explaining why I had ordered incorrectly. It was rude and condescending and completely off-putting.
