Let's start with the positives. The physical plant and public room are beautiful. But we found that beauty is only skin deep on the Solstice. The main dining room's food read better on the menus than it was in real life. Our concierge class cabin was so narrow that, in order to allow a person to walk past the bed toward the balcony, they had to round off the corners of the mattress! Heaven forbid that anyone in your cabin is over 6 foot tall, because their feet will dangle over the curved part of the mattress. There was little to do on days at sea. Old movies, eating, and glass blowing were offered for those who either didn't use the pools or the fitness center. The shows and other entertainment didn't come up to what other steamship companies offered. The theatre's equipment was really first rate, but a barber shop quartet and a string quartet were the "high spots" in their well equipped theatre. Of the three nights of production numbers, only one night was, in our opinion, outstanding. It was painfully obvious that Celebrity designed the ship to produce the maximum salable cabins. An extra foot in cabin width, while losing some cabins per deck, would have made our cabin passable. Or, as I said to the rest of our party, I would have gladly given up the roses in the cabin each day, to be able to entertain in the cabin. Also, unlike some other steamship companies, there were no laundry rooms on each deck. Again, the economics of the loss of salable cabins vs laundry rooms doesn't impact most people on short cruises of 7 days or less, but if I were to travel on this ship for a longer period, I would resent having to pay ships' laundry prices to get clean socks! And, before someone suggests that you could always wash your socks in the sink, the bathroom lacks the convenience of a simple retractable clothes line in the shower. The bottom line is that I'd pass up sailing on this company's "flagship" for voyages of over 6 or 7 nights unless you play to spend no time in your cabin, and enjoy reading for entertainment.

Cabin Review

Cabin C 1

The lower section of 1/2 of the closet was taken up by the safe, and the shelves it sat on. The closet space is not suitable for cruises over 6 nights, unless your wife only brings 2 outfits, and you are happy wearing the same 2 pairs of slacks every other day.
