Sailed solo for this cruise, chosen for the port of Amber Cove. I flew in the day of sailing from Atlanta. After a short taxi ride arrived at the port. I was able to check luggage, go through security, get checked in and be on board within 15 minutes. it was the shortest and easiest embarkation ever.

As it was only 11:30, and the rooms were ready, I was able to go to my stateroom before checking out the lunch venues. The first thing I noticed was that there was a bottle of wine missing. All of the other amenities that I pre-ordered were there except for one of the two bottles of wine. Okay, maybe it was too early and would wait until later to check again. The second thing missing was a coffee maker. It is advertised that all Neptune Suites were to now have in room coffee makers. I asked the room steward that came by and he said that coffee makers were not allowed as they are a fire hazard. I didn't feel that it was my job to teach him what the company was offering to the guests, but proceeded to advise him of the new changes. He still knew nothing of the coffee maker. At this point, I called the concierge and was advised that the coffee makers were in the process of being put into the rooms. Since I had their ear, I advised of the wine and was told that it would be delivered later that day.

The ship has a quiet elegance. Between the muted colors and understated furniture, it is comforting and not "garish" in any way. The covered pool area is rather steamy when the ceiling is closed, and the humidity never seems to go away. The day of the week inserts in the elevators are reminiscent of RCL. It is a nice reminder to see what day of the week it is because it is so easy to lose track of time. The pool on the back of the ship is nice, never saw more than 2-3 people using it any one time. There didn't seem to be enough bar help in this area.

Port Reviews

Grand Turk

This was a great excursion. It is a tour of the island on ATV's. The helmets have radios that gives the tour guide access to everyone over the roar of the ATV's. The guide was knowledgeable of his island and seemed proud to point out different sights.

Key West

I have been to Key West many times. The one thing I have not done is to go to the Ripley's museum, so that is what I did. It was interesting.

Half Moon Cay

This was just fun in the sun, with both protected and open water jet skiing. it was a lot of fun.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

This was the major reason for booking this itinerary as it is one place I haven't been. It's a beautiful and the people are friendly. They really make tourists feel welcome as they know this knew port will be great for their economy. I would recommend for anyone to see the mini Christ the Redeemer. It is a cable car ride to the top of the mountain. Beautiful scenery from the top, as well as the statue itself.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Not much to see from the airport to the port on a short taxi ride to the cruise terminal.
