I traveled with my husband and several friends in July 2015 on the Breakaway from Manhattan, New York to Bermuda. We were part of a private conference on the ship. This is our third time cruising, the other two both with Holland America to Alaska.

It's very hard to compare the cruises, since they are geared towards different folks. The Alaska cruises drew older, more affluent, probably fifty-plus crowd, very "buttoned up" with very few young families, and the Bermuda cruise targets anybody and everybody. There were tons of children on the Norwegian cruise, since it was my understanding that Norwegian runs specials at the last minute where children cruise free with each paying adult to help sell those unsold cabins. New Yorkers swoop up the deal since the boat leaves from their back yard.

We knew going in that it would have a very different feel and it certainly did. The Breakaway holds about 6,000 people, and I'm certain that we were near that number. It is a huge ship and people were everywhere. We preferred not to have to spend much time around other people's loud, out-of-controlled monkeys, since we purposely left ours at home and were trying to relax. So our game plan was to buy in at the Vibe Beach Club adults only area, where we pictured ourselves spending most of our time while at sea sipping Pina Coladas and texting our children embarrassing pictures of us in swimwear. Didn't happen. We were supposed to embark early, but there was a hold up and the Vibe was sold out by the time we dashed down there like mental patients vying for their cup o' meds.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Our room was nice, clean, up to date, and it had lots of storage for a cruise ship. I was actually surprised how much they came up with. We had a small balcony with chairs, and it was perfect for taking pictures of the Statue of Liberty and of New York as we were leaving and coming back. We were on deck 8 and someone naughty above us regularly smoked and through his/her cigarettes down onto our deck, but never while we were out there. The bed was really comfortable and the air conditioning worked like a dream, and we needed it.
