We are an older couple in our early 70's and have cruised with Celebrity, RCL and Princess and find NCL to be fairly comparable to these others. Destination has always been more important than the ship and it's amenities. Our stateroom was on deck 9 port side aft, and although a tad small by some standards it was adequate for our needs and was well attended by our cabin steward. The ships common areas we clean and well maintained and the crew was always accommodating and friendly. There is some wear and tear, but that is to be expected with 2100 passengers every week. There was nothing I would consider unacceptable.
We ate in the Liberty dinning room each evening and found the food and the wait staff to be what we have experienced on other cruises. Not exactly gourmet dinning, but perfectly acceptable. Wait staff was friendly a efficient. We had breakfast buffet in the Moderno restaurant area on deck eleven aft of the Aloha Cafe. The same food as the cafe, but much less crowded and less of the herd mentality.
We did not book any of the ships tours, but elected to use Roberts Hawaii instead and I can only say that it was a positive experience. Tendering in Kona was very efficient with little or no wait leaving or returning to the ship.
