Great cruise, but lacking some of the flare expected.

We booked this cruise as a post holiday getaway. We got a pretty good rate and were overall satisfied with the cruise. Having been on other cruise lines (RC and NCL) I knew Carnival would not be the same experience, but went for a less expensive cruise line to see the difference. I will say the value for the money was exactly what we expected so I would give an overall 3.5

Ship: The conquest is a good ship but not great. It is a good size (not too big or too small) but could use some updates. The cabin color scheme was questionable (but who really cares right?), the signage throughout the ship could use an update. They use lighted signs to display area names but the signage was fading and sometimes hard to read. The ship itself can seem cramped, especially the promenade deck. The main walking area is cluttered with photographers at night and sometimes limited to walking single file. The Fun Shops were closed for the first half of our cruise without any warning until embarkation. Once they opened, they were more limited than I had expected compared to my last cruise on RC Freedom of the seas. The Lido deck was well designed and were never unable to find a chair. Bar service on Lido was always fast and friendly. Water slide leaves you wanting more.

Service: Sometimes good sometimes leaves you wondering. The waitstaff was always friendly but sometimes they seemed under prepared. Our dining room waitstaff missed little things like describing the menu or filling water glasses. It was never bad but it is not comparable to the service I have had on RC or NCL. Most staff members were helpful. The only real issue we had that I would say took away from our cruise experience was our dinner time. We were supposed to have Anytime Dining but were stuck into an 8:15 time. When we asked the maitre de to accommodate us, they said they would "try" and let us know the next day. We only received a note under our door with a dining card showing our reservation for 8:15 in our dining room. No apology or explanation. That dinner time did make us miss many activities we wanted to attend. Stateroom steward was always friendly knew our names. He always said hello but never anything else. He did his job, was friendly but nothing special. No complaints.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin 8F

Our cabin was 6363, a balcony room. The layout is what you would expect, king bed, couch, desk, bathroom, balcony with two chairs and small table. For me the cabin isn't extremely important. I am only there to sleep and get ready so I am not picky. The one note I will make is about noise. deck 6 is right about the promenade deck, so if you prefer quiet go for deck 7. Deck 8 you have noise from Lido above. We were right above the casino so there was a singer every night below us. Didn't bother us but some may not be able to sleep. It is loud enough that we could sing along.

Port Reviews

Cozumel

We went on a Mayan ruins and sightseeing tour. The island is not very exciting to see. Pretty boring. The Ruins were interesting but it kind of dragged on. I'm glad I saw it but wouldn't pick that excursion again.

Falmouth

The excursion was well run and easy for us. Dunns river was great and exciting. You get soaked so keep that in mind. Bring water shoes or you can rent/buy them. They cost us $10 so we just bought them. Our guide was good and fun. The local people are very pushy so if thats not your style, you may want to skip this port.

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

The port is pretty Americanized (like most we went to). The water is crystal clear so I would suggest an excursion that is beach or dive related.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We traveled from the airport to the ship and back. Nothing to tell here.
