I felt like I was living in an infomercial where I was bombarded with "buy me". the Cruise line has a relationship with Diamonds International and push you to go to their store at EVERY port! There were channels running all day on shopping at Diamonds International, OR book your next cruse NOW! Even between movies there were NCL commercials! Seriously, I was already on one right!? It was like your husband/wife asking you every 5 minutes to marry you again when you were already married!
Half the time the navigation channel (that told you the weather) was not working. So you had to send someone topside to determine what the weather was like so, the rest could dress appropriately.
Then there was the food. UGH, breakfast the EXACT same every day. Lunch pretty much the exact same every day and BLAND. Dinner a bit better but with usually only 1 vegetable choice. Old County Buffett or Home Town Buffett was better! We ordered in one evening Pizza and chicken strips. The pizza was cool, soggy and undercooked and the chicken strips were RAW in the middle! ruined our appetite and we went to bed hungry.
our cabin was roomy, clean and bigger than I expected.
my friend has always wanted to swim with dolphins and they were able to make that happen for her even though she cannot walk very well. She said it was a dream come true and one of the best experiences of her life.
Life time resident Darren gave us an AWESOME tour with stops for food, coffee and sights. He gave us great ideas for other places to visit the following day! LOVED IT!
This place is AMAZING!!!! if you can get Ivy Brooks (know as Big Mama) to take you on a tour! she was the best! She took us everywhere we wanted to go and shared local stories with us!
Visit "Made in Rotan" this is a little shop where a Canadian couple has started teaching a trade to those who need income and then allowing them to sell their items in the store. THEY do not take any profits! the items are beautiful, original and truly a gift that goes forwards and backwards.
We took a cab and went on a private tour. the tour was nice and the man was nice but the city is a bit scary. I did not feel very safe and it is filthy.
We took a private tour of the ruins and a few towns. the sights were amazing! Our guide gave us lessons in plant life. He rubbed a leaf in his hands and we could smell the allspice! He showed us the plant the Mayan's used to make their version of chewing gum. we wanted to eat local food and he did not fail us there either! Oh my fresh cheese, warm tortillas and amazing tamales! Look for Cab Driver Hector, I do not have his last name. But he was AMAZING!
