DH and I took a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise in Jan. with 2 other couples. This was the first time any of us had been on a HAL ship. The Eurodam had recently been in drydock and it seemed to us that she was updated very well. I must say that the entire crew on our cruise were the friendliest, most helpful group of workers you could imagine. Everyone greeted us with a smile and a cheerful "Hello" throughout the trip. Embarkation was very easy and it was clear that HAL really knows how to handle this part of a cruise. Our cabin, 1102 DD, was very bright and our stewards, Risman and HoHo, gave us outstanding service.

We chose the Early Dining option, and once again, our servers were fantastic. Food was mostly delicious, the exception being the Canaletto. The dishes served there are VERY spicy and hot. There is no advisory on the menu, which I think might be a good idea since not everyone likes very spicy food. Service there, however, was very good.

Grand Turk, our first stop, was okay. The shops were just your average tourists traps. I wouldn't go back again. Next port was San Juan, another disappointment. It was hot, dirty, and very crowded, even though there weren't that many ships in port that day...again, I wouldn't go back The next stop was St. Maarten/ St. Martin. Now, this was well worth the whole cruise! We booked the Explorers and Party Boat excursion thru HAL. We loved the whole experience. The bus takes you thru both the Dutch and French sides of the Island. Our guide was very informative, she spoke clearly and slowly, so everyone understood her narration. The only downside was it began to rain when we arrived at Marigot. So, we boarded the party boat and we began to.........party!!! WOW, those rum drinks sure pack a punch! But, a good time was had by all...at least by our group! The last port was the beautiful private HAL Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. It is truly a paradise.....crystal blue water, white sandy beaches, a delicious lunch buffet, and lots of wait staff to order drinks from. We have been back not quite a week yet, and I'm yearning to do another HAL cruise, perhaps on the new Konnigsdam. Oh, one more thing, The B.B. King Blues Club is the best entertainment ever. They play all genre of music, and if you're not up there dancing after a few songs, please have someone check your pulse!!!!
