We started by meeting friends in Brussels and then taking the Thalys train to Amsterdam. One mistake we made was that we thought the ship would be closer to the rear entrance of the train station, but it was quite a hike, in the rain no less. Be aware that if you sail from Amsterdam the rail station is a very long walk, especially with luggage!
ONce we arrived at the terminal, it was a very crowded and it took almost an hour to deposit our luggage. Then, aboard the ship, there was another line to surrender our passports to British authoriites because we were headed to the UK. We got them back at the end of the cruise
ONce finally aboard, we were able to get into our stateroom which was a mid-ship balcony. At first glance, it looked like storage was limited, but in actuality, there was plenty of space to stow our belongings. The bathrom was spaciious and had large amounts of storage.
Great location on the "hump" so our balcony was larger by a bit. The eight deck balconies are completely unobstructed by lifeboats. The Verandah cabins on the Silhouette are a decent size and the bathroom was larger than the one in our junior suite on the Grandeur of the Seas.
