We started our trip with an extension to Lake Lucerne and it was a perfect way to begin a wonderful vacation. The city of Lucerne is just a great place to walk and take in a sample of Switzerland. As always the attentive Viking staff is there to greet you and assist in many ways. The centrally located Hotel Schweizerhof, an old world wonder, was great. An excursion to the Alps was magnificent and our arrival at the long ship IDI in Basel was right on time.

We sailed from Basel to Amsterdam the reverse of most travellers and it was perfect. The Rhine is a larger and more busy river than the Danube and the scenery is just beautiful. Each town is picturesque and each stop worth every minute. As you sail by the kilometer markers , you begin to realize that this is a major river that has been used by travellers for over two thousand years. The villages, towns, castles, and vineyards fill in scenery, a camera is a must.

I can't say enough about our IDI crew. They were fantastic in everyway. The tours, lunches, dinners and entertainment were terrific. The social director was exceptional in every way, we simply had a ball! This was our third, but by no means our last, Viking cruise. Departure is always a sad day but Viking relieves the stress by making sure you are safe and sound at your airline for the trip home. This is much appreciated.
