We, a group of 10, booked five balcony cabins on the yet undelivered Pacific Aria nearly a year ago. The cruise was a P&O 'Main Event' cruise - Australia Day on Sydney Harbour. Six days out from departure we found out that we weren't actually spending the day anchored out on Sydney Harbour as had originally been promoted by P&O. Instead we would be docked at White Bay further up the harbour at Balmain. Zero we could do about it so four of us decided to book a Captain Cook Tall Ships Parade cruise before we left Brisbane.
The ship has been getting some terrible reviews on here so let's start with the positives (remember these are our impressions after a five day cruise)-
- Big cabins (but untouched since handover to P&O Australia). Super comfy beds
Standard balcony cabin that anyone who has been on a HAL S or R class ship will recognise. They are big cabins for a standard cabin with a very big balcony big enough for a lounger and one or two chairs. Lots of cupboard and drawer space. Three seater sofa. DVD player. Getting tired though. The cabins need refurbishing desperately.
This particular cabin, and neighbour 9138 are above the new bar the Blue Room. We walked into the cabin on the first night just before 11pm and it was like the rockabilly band playing down there was in the room. We called and complained to reception but nothing they could do. They would be finishing at midnight. I eventually went down to reception and demanded some earplugs, not that they did much to block the noise out. We stayed up in the Dome the second night until after midnight to avoid the noise. One night the daily progamme indicated they would finish at 11. We went back to the room at about 11:15 hoping for quiet but they kept going until 12:10am including two one minute plus drum solos just before midnight. When we called reception they agreed they should have finished at 11 but "nothing we can do".
DO NOT book 9134 or 9138 on Aria or Eden unless you are totally deaf or never go back to your room before midnight.
