A family fun cruise, on a family fun cruise ship, that was not actually that much family fun. The Carnival Sensation was not a bad ship just a little past its prime and limited in its fun by a company that seems happy to strive to meet its corporate status quo.
The ship was nice, if not a little dirty and worn, with large and well laid out cabins even in the economy section. Probably one of the best bathroom layouts I have seen thus far with a proper shower that keeps the water in and off the main floor and a toilet you don’t have to be a yoga master or amputee to utilize. One very nasty drawer in the cabin full of old materials from several cruises past was the only spoiler.
The food was in large part of the potato/tomato variety with more appealing flavor but less attractive appearance then the other cruise lines and resorts we have tried. I only had one really bad item in the form of fried chicken from the buffet that appeared to be processed into unrecognizable chunks by a bizarre industrial accident versus proper butchering. The wait staff was excellent especially our dining room waiter, Leonardo.
Nice cabin and worked well even for two adults and two large kids. Clean aside from a drawer full of debris from cruises past. Bathroom layout and size was excellent.
Parking was a bit of a pain with having to drop folks at one terminal and then park at the returning terminal somewhere else then catching a bus back to the departing terminal.
Slow and boring. Only took it as boat tour was cancelled at last minute by operator. But at least got to buy more Blanc Du Nil!
