We had the crew of the Alsvin but we were on the Viking Modi. We were notified of the change in ships because of low water levels but ended up being able to sail on Viking Modi for our entire trip on Thanksgiving week. We really had an excellent time. The included tours were great and so was the one additional tour we took. This is definitely the way to travel - you can do as much or as little as you want. You can go on group tours or strike out on your own anytime you want.

Staff were truly exceptional - very friendly, accommodating, spirited, fun, and most assuredly competent and super organized. The Hotel Manager, Program Director, and Concierge were truly exceptional. The Hotel Manager was wonderful, even going out of his way to accommodate a special request from a passenger. The Program Director and Concierge quickly adjusted the tours when they saw that there were some elderly people with walking issues and by the second day started offering "Leisurely Tours" for those groups as well as the regular tours and even some more active tours for the adventurous groups. They really did provide something for everyone.

The chef and his staff were truly outstanding and prepared the most amazing food - every single meal was delicious. The Taste of Austria was beyond compare. The head of the dining room and his staff were very friendly and charming. The stateroom staff were very efficient, unobtrusive, and friendly. We never saw one frown on any of the 50 crew's faces.

Cabin Review

French Balcony

Cabin D

It was fairly small - nice king size bed but barely room to walk around. No place to put our two suitcases...but plenty of closets and drawers to store our clothes so one suitcase went into the closet, the other squeezed into the corner (if smaller, they would have fit under the bed). This being said, we were hardly ever in our room so the smallness didn't matter. Bathroom was good size and nice.

Port Reviews

Budapest

Local tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The castle district was really pretty. Fun to walk around town on our own and go to the Christmas Market.

Bratislava

Loved the Christmas Market in Bratislava.

Vienna

Beautiful palace - and loved the Christmas Market here as well.

Vienna

The local tour guide took off walking at a very fast pace and never once looked back to ensure every one was with her. Dumped us off in the middle of Vienna at the end of the tour and said to meet back up at a certain time or she would assume we were finding our own way back. Very rude. But the city was beautiful.

Melk

Best excursion of the trip. Truly beautiful abbey and then the walk back through town to the ship was really wonderful too.

Linz (Salzburg)

Cold and wet snow so that put a little damper on the walking tour. But it was a beautiful city and probably would have been more fun in better weather. Two hour bus ride there and 2 hours back was very comfortable. Nice to see some of the countryside.
