I have been on several cruises before, this was my first with Royal and the first cruise ever for my husband. I had very high expectations for this cruise, after all, it wasn't Carnival. We flew into San Juan the day of departure and had arranged transfers to and from the airport through Royal- it was a quick ride, maybe 15-20 minutes to port. The embarkation process went smooth for the most part, although, it took significantly longer than expected given that we arrived at about 6:00 PM and there were not many others awaiting check-in.

We had a promenade stateroom, this was nothing more than an interior room with a window. The décor was very outdated and damaged, the bathroom fixtures and toilet had yellowed with age, cracks in the mirrors etc. Our bed was quite uncomfortable, very lumpy and hard as a rock. The bedspread had yellow stains, which we reported and waited almost two for housekeeping to come replace. In previous reviews I read that the ship was definitely showing its age, I couldn't agree more. In fact, the Adventure is headed to dry dock this year.

There were plenty of activities to participate in, we enjoyed the adult comedy show, adult game shows and various pool activities. I was disappointed in the quality of food in the Windjammer, it was always the same selection for breakfast and lunch. We did not eat there for dinner as we were in the main dining room. Café Promenade is located on Deck 5 and is open 24 hours, which is nice to have the option for a snack without going all the way to Windjammer. The menu was limited to cheese or pepperoni pizza, various sandwiches such as egg salad, ham, and turkey. They did have a couple of desserts, cheesecake, cookies etc. Our service in the main dining room was great, although, I was a little disappointed in the food. We did not go to Johnny Rockets or the other specialty restaurants as I didn't want to pay to eat.
