The destinations, San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarteen, and Tortola were great destinations. The only problem is, for a 10 day cruise the Norwegian Gem ship is quite a boring ship. It isn't very fancy or anything and there isn't anything fun about it, other than the activities. The ship had one slide which was closed down. It is my understanding that the slide has been closed down for over 2 months now. Also, not that we cared, but the bowling alley was taking out and it is still being advertised with a bowling alley, even to this day. So, the only two things that the ship has or had is no longer there.

The bars on this ship are fantastic, as well as all of the staff, except for our room steward. He wasn't terrible or anything, but I think he was new/inexperienced. When we got to our room on the first day, the table in the room was filthy. The steward kept forgetting to fill the ice bucket so I had to tell him. He also wasn't very pleasant at first, but then warmed up to us about the 7th day. I like how on this ship they didn't print out a receipt every time they gave you a drink to make you feel like you had to tip even more on top of the tip.

The excursion we did in Tortola for a tour of the island was great and the excursion we did at St. Maarteen to the Maho beach was great. Our room wasn't a bad size. It was a mini suite and I thought it was going to be horrible, because the last time we took NCL they had the room setup terribly. They had the bed in front of the balcony and there was barely any room to get by it to get to the balcony. Everything was very clean on the ship. The buffet food was ok. Nothing great about it, but just ok. The staff in the buffet room was awesome though. Always cleaning and keeping everything stocked with the silverware and such.

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MB

Nice size cabin. Bathroom setup was a waste with the way the toilet has a glass door, but you can see right through it. There is no point. The closet setup was also in a bad place and you had to be up against one side of the bed and the 3rd and 4th person didn't really have access to the closet or their own.

Port Reviews

San Juan

We walked to the fort and to Pandora.

St. Maarten

this was very fun and amazing how low the huge airplanes get right down to the beach.

St. Thomas

This is my favorite island. We took a taxi to Secret Harbor Beach. That is my favorite beach. It is so beautiful, clean, and calm. The snorkeling is pretty good too.

Tortola

We went up into the mountains to the very top. Driver was awesome.
