This is our 4th trip on the QV and was our second attempt to see in the New Year in Amsterdam via a ship (our Last attempt on the P & O Oceana was cancelled due to the weather and we spent 3 very rocky nights in the North Sea). This time we were travelling with friends who were new to cruising. We booked early and paid a premium price to ensure deck1 midship outside cabins. The weather forecast was for stormy seas so I was anxious that we might not make it in to Amsterdam. We had a smooth journey down to Southampton and arrived at Ocean terminal at 11.30 where our luggage was taken and CPS took the car. Check in opened at noon and we were on the ship, in our stateroom (cabin) with our luggage delivered by 12.30. (A complete contrast to the last time I left Southampton on the QM2 in May when the whole process of embarkation was a fiasco even though for that trip we had priority boarding as travelling in Queens).

The ship looked glorious in her Christmas decoration. All very tasteful. We ate in the Golden Lion and enjoyed the Sailawayy from the aft lido deck. Our cabin was very cosy and ideally placed for the lifts and the Britannia Resturant. We went on our own ships tour and then rested a wee while before dinner (Brittania, second sitting, deck 2). The ship stayed in UTC (equivalent to GMT) time throughout the cruise so we didn't have to change time zone.

We chugged along the English coast to the straights of Dover. The sea state was rough but not excessively so. the QV with its stabilisers out handled the swell well.

Cabin Review

Oceanview

Cabin EB

Very cosy cabin. Love Cunard mattresses. Not much draw space but draw under the bed available.

TV very tinny sound.

Cabin steward very good

Great view of the sea from bed but remember o close curtains at night if in port the next day as you may be on ground level next to the dock.

Port Reviews

Southampton

Well sign posted. Ocean terminal speed embarkation

Amsterdam

Great city for anyone whatever your preference.

Brugge (Bruges)

Brugge deserves more than 1 day. Great atmosphere. Feels very save. Lots to see and Ghent nearby
