Had a wonderful cruise to New Zealand on Golden Princess. Majority of staff wonderful, enjoyed shows etc. But one week before trip broke my ankle. Given OK to travel provided we got wheelchair assistance. Purchased our own wheelchair. Our travel agent and Princess both assured us that wheelchair assistance would be forthcoming at Melbourne Airport and the dockside. So we purchased Princess transfers. At the airport they didn't have our name but showed them our paperwork - they then charged us - again.
At airport we were told jump up 5 large steps to board big coach. I said surgeon said no weight on foot. We were told this coach is the only option - did you want to miss the ship? So struggled up on one leg and down again at dock. No assistance in cruise terminal - my husband pushed wheelchair plus hand luggage to cabin. No one available to help. Well we got there so were determined to enjoy the trip. Lots of assistance going ashore from staff plus shuttle buses that catered for wheelchairs.
When onboard we used the room service a lot as it was difficult for me to get to the buffet. The selection was a bit limited on room service but if you asked they would offer other things not on the menu. When I did get to the buffet the staff there were very helpful and were happy to help dish out my selections.
Perfect cabin to store wheelchair and get dressed. Plus huge balcony
