Say NO to going on the "NO"wegian Star. Eight of our family sailed for this New Years cruise and won't ever consider "NO"wegian Cruise Lines as an option. To begin with, our family members are frequent cruisers so we are not new to the quirks of cruising. Our experience on the Star was simply unacceptable. For the most part the dining room staff were miserable, incompetent, and at many times rude. The two maitre d's at the Versailles main dining room were downright hateful! The charmer at the Aqua dining room was just as unpleasant. The bar staff at the piano bar, Gatsbys, were the worst of any ship we have ever been on. Forget about getting a drink at the pool bar. Even generous tipping did nothing to improve their attitudes. The only bright spot was the four bar tenders at the 5 o'clock Somewhere Bar; they were pleasant and friendly at all times. To get back to the title of the review, we never heard the word no so many times in one week. For example, we went to dinner at 9:05 one evening and were told the dining room was closed at 9:00 so we would have to go to the other dining room. This was despite the fact that they made us wait other nights until after 9:30 to even be seated. When we went to the other dining room we were told they can't seat a party of 8. Dining room service was all over the board. One night we could not get any food and were told there was no more bread on the boat, other nights we had very good service by our waiter. So 78 year old Grandma was either going to miss the shows she loved or eat, but not both. No you can't get two drinks at once despite paying for unlimited drink package, no you can't get on a tender early to meet your excursion (which we missed despite getting tender tickets at 8:00 AM), no you can't sit with the waiter you request, no you can't have a bottle of water without paying $7, no you can't use onboard credit for gratuities, no you can't get drink service in theater( one server for whole theater), no you can't reserve a table for dinner, no you can't have more bread at dinner (we were told they stopped baking bread), etc., etc. One bright spot was the live music onboard, especially the band Exotique. If you want experience bad attitudes during your vacation the Star is for you.
