For our second cruise on the Getaway, we wanted to try out the Western Caribbean itinerary and it was great!

This time we brought friends with us – another family of four (who had never cruised before).

The kids usually enjoy the Splash Academy programming, but spent most of their time playing with their friends on the sports deck this cruise. Many rounds of mini-golf and ping-pong were played! They also enjoyed the trampoline, rock climbing wall, waterslides and ropes course and the older two (11 and 16) even walked the plank!

Cabin Review

Family Balcony Stateroom

We booked two Family Balcony staterooms on Deck 12 and loved the cabin layout with a sofa that converts into bunk beds (a twin pulls down from the ceiling but is out of sight during the day). The bathroom, while not large, has a thoughtfully designed shower with a glass door and laundry string and was sufficient to meet our needs with plenty of hot water and water pressure.

The balcony is small, but fits two upright chairs and provides a nice outdoor space. All four of us could squeeze outside together standing up to watch the scenery.

Deck 12 balcony staterooms alternate between three and four berth rooms, so we couldn’t get adjoining rooms with our friends, but were only one room away from each other. Splash Academy (kids program) is conveniently located on Deck 12 as well.

Port Reviews

Great Stirrup Cay

Snorkeling and playing at the beach with a cook-out mid day. Bathroom and shower facilities are less than stellar but great beach! Tender port

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

Booked a private beach horseback riding excursion with Cayman Horse Rides (by Nikki), it was very memorable. Some of our group also went snorkeling unescorted and said it was amazing - the best of our trip and easily accessible from the public beach. Public transportation very reasonable. Tender Port.

Ocho Rios

We went to the RIU Ocho Rios on a day pass. Transportation for 8 ended up costing us $15 each round-trip. The RIU was lovely and had a great pool with a swim up bar and excellent snorkeling and included water sports. The food was okay, nothing special, but we were only there for lunch. Loved the all-inclusive and Jamacian attitude - everything is "no problem" and "no worries". Wish we could have stayed longer!
