My last "cruise" was courtesy of the US Navy 40 years ago when I served in the USMC. Unlike many of my companions on that one, I enjoyed it despite the cramped quarters and sparse amenities. Since then, I'd always been curious about civilian cruises and wanted someday to return to sea.
I convinced my wife that we should return from our fall tour of Spain via cruise ship, as the repositioning trans-Atlantic fares were very attractive. She was somewhat reluctant, expressing concern over such a long voyage, but gave in. Our travel agent recommended Celebrity based on satisfaction of her clients.
We embarked in Barcelona on October 27th after spending 10 days in Spain. We had our luggage tagged, but no one from Celebrity ever offered to help us drag the heavy cases aboard, so I subtract one star for the pain and inconvenience of lugging that stuff to our room. (my left shoulder is still sore)
Our cabin was on Deck 8, port side, near amidships, with a balcony. Very comfortable accommodations with more room that expected, particularly in the bathroom, which I expected to be similar to an RV, but was relatively spacious and well appointed. As expected, TV reception was spotty at times during the crossing. Internet service was expensive and sloooow. But all things taken into account, we were very pleased with the room and would definitely consider reserving a similar cabin.
