From the moment we began our check in...My daughter Jacorien...and myself were richly impressed. The staff were very professional, yet personal. We had previously come to New Orleans aboard The City of New Orleans from Amtrak. A very spacious train in their fleet. We spent a Night in Harrah's Casino Hotel...they offered a great rate. Even though this adventure would not have been possible had it not been for the partnership between Fitzgerald's Casino and Casino at Sea with Norwegian Cruise Line.
The Dawn is a beautiful ship to cruise on. The Staff were exceptional and provided much needed information for our Ports of Call...Cozumel Mexico, Belize City Belize , Roatan Bay Honduras, and last though not least Costa Maya Mexico. Once aboard there were numerous activities for which to partake. Art, music, theater, jewelry, wine tasting, dancing and the food...classic American, Brazilian, Italian, French and Japanese. There was no need to try a buffet, their well planned menus that each restaurant prepared were elegant and most delicious. Everyday a three course meals. Never was I bored with my selections, and I only gained four pounds.
The staff of the Dawn are the Most attentive to their guest that I have ever had the chance to meet. Always smiling and always one step ahead of what I was thinking. My stateroom was very spacious with amenities that only could be described as luxurious. A huge balcony that was right at the front of the ship...with a view "That was described as to Kill For" before I even saw it. I was most impressed with everything at that point.
Gorgeous, with the view to kill for. Spacious with all amenities that you could want. A walk through closet, tub and shower, with separate toilet area. Cappucino and coffee/espresso machine, mini bar, small dinette set. A very large and soft queen size bed, with a let out love seat that can sleep one adult or two small children with a matching stool and side table. The stateroom was beyond comfortable, it was out of this world for me.
We saw half of the island with a stop to the Pyramids, toured a rum factory, and a flea market with beautiful items.
It's a small fishing village, that supplement their income with tourism. the area is beautiful that is very well protected. There is a large Mayan pyramid just outside of town. I wanted to go..couldn't the heat got me really quick. I take medications so i had to pace myself right back to the ship. Make sure you drink plenty of water, because their weather is tropical and it really don't match what you may feel at home.
It was a great tour to see the people in their everyday lives. To see their history and the preservation of it.
Just to see an area of history that has been protected and unspoiled since it was built. The peace and tranquility you feel when you look into the past. They were amazing people to build without technology, and come up with the beauty that last way after they themselves are gone.
Basically we walked the shopping area, and veered off the traditional path. Found mom and pop shops that had the same items for far less than the stores at the front of the peers. Don't get me wrong, I am a bargain shopper, those big name stores sell at such a mark up...my advice shop wisely. We docked at the older peer, still shop wisely.
