We've done a total of about 20 cruises on RCCL, Celebrity, Princess and Carnival. On the plus side of this cruise, we were generally pleased with the staff/service and food quality in the main dining room. The cabin service was acceptable, and most public areas and facilities were reasonably clean. Shows were good.
On the negative side, the ship looks and feels dated and heavily used. It also feels VERY crowded in public areas, particularly the buffet. Speaking of the buffet, this ship has the WORST buffet of any ship that we've ever been on, even Carnival (which was pretty unimpressive). The buffet fails at every level at breakfast and lunch (we never tried it for dinner). Much of the food we tried was literally inedible (like, spit it out inedible!). Scrambled eggs were like a lump of clay; toast, waffles and pancakes were cardboard; mixed fruit was poisoned... In addition, there wasn't much selection: an embarrassingly small salad selection complemented by slimy, unmarked salad dressing bottles; no sandwich bar; and a variety of prepared slop (which seemed like the same slop with a different name ever day). Then, good luck trying to find a clean table...plenty of tables, but few cleaned. You also have the pleasure of navigating around trash and food strewn across the floor and under tables.
Another BIG disappointment is Internet service. RCCL now robs passengers needing any Internet service. The MINIMUM service is $40, which gets you 1-day of unlimited but painfully slow Internet access You're no longer allowed to buy based on consumption. Want to send one email from the ship? It will cost you $40 (or a few $ less if you have elite status).
