Just as background, I have been on six Royal Caribbean cruises and have taken five different cruise lines in the past. Overall my wife and I were very unhappy with the quality of Anthem of the Seas. There is no main dining room which I feel is a major problem. The alternative is dynamic dining. Many of the restaurants charge excessive fees to dine. During our seven-day cruise none of the dinner meals were acceptable. The service was poor. The restaurants were overcrowded and chaotic. The food was definitely substandard and often not acceptable. There are often lines to get into the restaurant despite reservations required. The restaurants were crowded and I felt that people were on top of me when I was trying to eat. Dressing attire requirements were not enforced.
The quality of the staff was not good. Very few staff went out of their way to make the cruise more pleasant. Staff often were not smiling and were seen standing around and acting as if this was a some summer job that they couldn't wait to end. I definitely got the impression that the staff needed more training. In fact, one waiter specifically told me he has been in the industry for 15 years and this was the worst ship he's worked on and could not wait to get off the ship.
Room service food was terrible. Their "pastries" consisted of stale rolls. If you wanted an egg for breakfast there was a four dollar charge. Very very limited room service menu. The Windjammer was often overcrowded with lack of variety of food. We often found ourselves wandering around with food on our plates trying to find some place to sit.
The cabins were more than adequate and clean. Bathrooms were a bit small. Balconies were smaller than usual. Overall cabin experience was good and there were flatscreen TVs with a lot of information about activities onboard.
The tour was misrepresented. At one point we spent an hour a a fish market where they were trying to sell us fish.
This was a typical overcrowded port filled with inexpensive trinkets to buy.
