Stayed 2 nights at the Embassy Suites Isle Verde - always stay here before a cruise out of San Juan. Made the mistake of not getting the taxi voucher at the airport so ended up getting in an argument with the taxi driver as he was trying to overcharge. Finally got the bell person involved and the taxi driver quickly changed the charge to the correct charge - no extra tip for him.
At 11, took a taxi to the port. Luggage line took about 10 minutes. We were booked in a mini suite but our boarding pass stated suite so (after asking the person that was there answering questions) got in the suite line which was much much shorter than the regular line. However, when they opened the doors around noon or so, absolutely no one checked the boarding pass for this information so anyone could have been in the suite line.
We have taken about 15 cruises on various lines - selecting a ship based solely on itinerary that matches when we can cruise. Our main reason for vacationing in the Caribbean is snorkeling. We often do land vacations but as we get older (mid 60s) we are leaning toward only cruising for the ease of getting to various places, unpacking once, and more safety and security all around. That being said, we don't look for the ship condition - just want to feel that we are in clean surroundings.
Went with cruise line here because I couldn't find anything private for snorkeling. I have only been home 4 days and it was so blah that I can't even remember anything about it!
Power boat ride is a nice change of pace from being on a Catamaran all the time. Excellent captain and assistant. Very good snorkeling at two locations. Enjoyed this quite a bit.
Always enjoy walking around and eating in Old San Juan. Breakfast at the ChocoBar was a highlight - chocolate waffles topped with lots of whipped cream and fresh fruit. The best chocolate croissants I have ever had.
