After our daughters wedding in October, my wife and I treated ourselves to a 14 day Eastern/Western Caribbean cruise on Holland America's Niew Amsterdam. We had been on this ship in January and again in March of this year and truly love Holland America and particularly the Niew Amsterdam. It's like our home away from home. We travel with Holland America not for the itineraries but for the ships.
The Niew Amsterdam is reminiscent of the ocean liners of years ago. No rock climbing walls, ice skating rinks, Central Park or bumper cars. Just a relatively laid back atmosphere with attention to detail, fine food and 1st class service.
Prior to the cruise we purchased clam shells at Half Moon Cay which is a must and the "Distinctive Dining Package" which was dinner at each of the specialty restaurants; the Pinnacle Grill, the Tamarind and Canaletto. However the Tamarind was so amazing, and the service so outstanding, we decided to forgo eating at the Canaletto and eat at the Tamarind multiple times.
We had an unobstructed ocean view cabin on the main deck. The cabin was approximately 187 square feet and had enough closet and storage space for all of our clothes for the 14 nights with room to spare. We even had leftover hangers.
