Let me start out by saying that Norwegian Cruise Lines has changed a lot in the last 10 years. I would definitely recommend an all inclusive resort over this vacation. The ship was the Norwegian Getaway and it was a beautiful ship since it is only a year and a half old. It was a SpongeBob Squarepants theme cruise so there were a lot of children aboard, but we knew that going in since we were taking our grandkids with us. The first thing I noticed is there is an extra fee for many things that use to be included. There are more dining options that cost extra than there are ones that are included. It is also difficult to find a table that will seat 6 people because they are usually full. So we had to send out a search party in all directions when we wanted to eat. Sometimes that became quite difficult. There are also extra charges now for room service. To use the steam and sauna that was an extra $200.00 for the week and that does not include any spa services. The games in the arcade are extra from $1.50 and up per game. Some shows and attractions are extra also. The rope course and rock climbing wall were fun but if it gets windy they shut them down which happened to us a few times. The jogging track is very small and narrow and it is almost impossible to use it with all the people walking around. The children's pool area was really great and the grandkids loved it along with the water slides. And the splash academy for the grandkids was really nice too. We had the unlimited beverage package which was good but on the second day they ran out of the vodka we liked at the bar that we frequented. At another bar on the fourth day they ran out of the domestic beer that we were drinking. We went on all 3 shore excursions that were offered and we had a great time on two of them. The St. Thomas beach was the best and Tortola beach was almost as good. Stay away from the beach at Nassau because it reminded us of Mexico. You are constantly harassed to buy things and you need to watch your valuables closely. And if you want to rent an old plastic lounge chair and umbrella it will cost you $40.00. I would not even recommend getting off the ship in Nassau. To get to the beaches from each port you have to take a taxi and for the three ports it cost us over $300.00 total. Do not buy shore excursions from the ship because they are a lot more expensive that getting them on the local economy. But that does take a little bit of research to find what you are looking for. All in all the cruise will cost you a lot more than what you think.
