Review of Voyager of the Seas - February 1st - 8th, 2009 out of Galveston, TX
We were on The Voyager of the Seas from February 1st - 8th out of Galveston, TX and here is my full review. This was our 9th cruise overall, 5th on Royal Caribbean and 7th time out of Galveston for a Western Caribbean trip. My husband and I are 51 and 47 we traveled with one other couple from Galveston. The last two cruises we had done with very large groups (24-32 people) and while we really enjoyed the large groups, it was fun this way as well.
OVERALL: We had an EXCELLENT time on this cruise. We love cruising out of Galveston because of the convenience (live in Houston/Galveston area) and we really like to support the cruising economy here in Galveston especially since the Hurricane. We had never been on a boat as big as this one (over 3000 people versus 2500) but even though the boat was full, it never seemed really crowded. The spaces are large so it handles the numbers well. This class of ship has a "Promenade" which is like a mall on the 5th floor. There are shops, bars and a cafe where you can just sit around and hang out. There are rooms that overlook this area (they are inside rooms with a big window that looks out over the Promenade area) but I think they had to be noisy at night when the bars were still going strong. The VOS is alternating itineraries between Cozumel/Roatan/Costa Maya and Cozumel/Grand Cayman/Jamaica while it is in Galveston through the Spring and we chose the second itinerary because we had never been to Jamaica before. Unfortunately, the winds were too strong when we were supposed to go to port there so we were unable to dock and missed the port which was the first time since we've been cruising that we didn't go to a port. EMBARKMENT: Extremely easy. We took a cab from the West end of the island at 11:00 AM and were on the boat and checked in well before noon. We want to get the most of our first day on the boat so like to go as early as we can. We had lunch at the Windjammer and it was very good. (More about this in the food section.)
Hump room on the 8th deck was a great location near the stairs and elevators.
